THE DISTILLERY
The Santa Teresa Hacienda is located in the Aragua State in the town of El Consejo. It was founded in 1796 by Count Martín de Tovar y Blanco (of Venezuelan origin), after having received ownership of these lands in 1771 by order of the King of Spain, Carlos III. He gave a part of the land to his daughter Teresa. Sugar cane was cultivated in it, due to which in 1810 the manufacture of this particular brandy began. In 1885, Don Gustavo Julio Vollmer (a German from Hamburg) bought the property. and he had a copper still brought from Europe to start producing rum on the hacienda that gave the drink its name, Santa Teresa.
