Origin: Scotland
Handcrafted whiskey using a process designed by Maestro David Stewart in 1982, in which the whiskey has aged at least 12 years in traditional whiskey barrels, burned American oak barrels, and is transferred to oak barrels that have previously been contained sherry wines for an additional nine months. Finishing their aging in large oak containers called "tuns" for 3-4 months to allow the whiskeys in the individual barrels to harmonize and balance.
Amber color with golden reflections. Aromas of sweet fruit, honey, vanilla and oloroso notes from Jerez. On the palate it is soft, velvety, with notes of nuts, dried fruit, canera and subtle hints of oloroso wine. Long and warm finish.
Bottle. 70Cl. 43º
THE DISTILLERY
Balvenie Distillery, located in Dufftown, Scotland, was founded in 1892 by William Grant, and is today owned by William Grant & Sons, an independent family-owned business. William Grant also created the Glenfiddich Distillery a few years before Balvenie, and it is also owned by William Grant & Sons. The two distilleries are located next to each other.
Balvenie Distillery grows its own barley on the 1,000-acre farm at Balvenie Mains, which makes up a small part of its needs. They still operate in a malting area to produce a minimal portion of their annual malted barley requirements (a rarity for distilleries today). In addition to an on-site cooperative, Balvenie Distillery has the longest-serving Master Distiller of single malts in the industry, David Stewart. He started working at the distillery at the age of 17 and continues to work today. He has currently been at the distillery for 56 years.
