THE DISTILLERY
In the year 1575, Lucas Bols founded a small distillery on the outskirts of Amsterdam. He had herbs and spices brought from all parts and corners of the world to create the finest liqueurs, which in the following decades would make him famous. His son, Jan Jacob Bols, built in 1612, a new distillery to replace his father's old shed. For centuries the company and all its confidential recipes passed from father to son. However, in 1816 the direct descendants in the Bols dynasty passed away and the family sold the company; they set an important condition: the Bols name must remain forever in the distillery.
