THE CELLAR
Philippe Clicqout was the founder of the company in 1772. His son, François Clicquot, married Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin in 1798 and died in 1805, leaving his widow in control of a diverse company that was involved in banking, the wool trade, and Champagne production. Under the direction of Madame Clicquot the company focused entirely on the production of Champagne, with great success.
By the time he passed away in 1866, Veuve Clicquot had become an important Champagne house and a respected brand.
Since 1987 the Veuve Clicquot company has been part of the Vuitton Moët Hennessy Louis group of luxury brands, and currently owns a controlling stake in New Zealand's Vineyards of Cloudy Bay.
