THE DISTILLERY
Laphroaig is famous for her steely determination to change as little as humanly possible in the distillation process. It is the reason why it is one of the few distilleries that still uses traditional sprouters. They dry and smoke their own malt. . In an attempt to re-create the taste of historic whiskeys, Laphroaig carried out experiments, using smaller casks and avoiding cold filtering.
It is one of the oldest distilleries on the island of Yslay. In 1995, the brand was recognized as having the only whiskey to carry the royal certificate of the Prince of Wales, the 15-year-old being his favourite.
Today it belongs to the North American company American Spirits Company Beam Inc.
