THE DISTILLERY
The Macallan estate encompasses 150 acres, 39 of which are dedicated to the production of Macallan's Minstrel Estate barley (a single acre produces around 2.5 tonnes of barley each year, enough to produce 1,800 bottles of The Macallan. In addition, The distillery contracts with farmers to buy barley that is low in nitrogen and high in starch, resulting in a rich, fatty whiskey.
