THE DISTILLERY
The Captain Morgan Rum Company was founded in 1945 by Sam Bronfman, President of the Seagram Beverage Company, who purchased the Long Pond Distillery from the Jamaican government.
In 1985 Seagrams sold the facility to the Serrallés Distillery, who have continued to make Captain Morgan rum under license from Seagram.
In 2001, Seagrams sold the Captain Morgan brand to the Diageo company, which has already invested in a new rum distillery on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, taking over the production of Captain rum. Morgan, when the Serrallés Distillery license ended in 2012.
Captain Morgan Rum is today one of the largest spirits brands in the world and has continued to expand its range of rums, primarily in the US and Canada. Along with a wide range of flavored rums under the Parrot Bay brand, Captain Morgan produces more than 10 different rums, including white, gold, dark, flavored, spiced and Premium.
