The name of El ron Prohibido is in relation to its history which during the 18th century, Spanish ships arrived in America with reserves of sweet wine in barrels. Instead of returning to Spain empty, they filled it with Mexican rum, known as Chinguirito. During the trip, the rum absorbed the aromatic characteristics of the barrels, which produced a rum of the highest quality.
This rum was enormously successful in Spain and the national producers complained to King Felipe V of Bourbon who was forced to ban the production of this rum in the New World. Chinguirito became known as Habanero since the last stop the ship made bound for Spain was in Havana, where it was no longer allowed to continue.
The Prohibido Habanero Rum is aged by a solera system for 12 years and aged in barrels that have previously contained Sherry wine.
Dark amber colour. Aromas of pepper, cinnamon, coffee, nuts, raisins, plums and vanilla. Soft on the palate with bitter notes, vanilla, chocolate and nuts.
