We open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew

How to open a wine without a corkscrew ? Finding a bottle of wine or any other bottle that has a cork in it, without a corkscrew at hand, causes headaches and leads us to do countless things to uncover the container. We teach you some tricks to get out of the problem and enjoy the drink.

Open the bottle with a knife

This method is the one that most people use. It is a tool that we all have at home and it helps us achieve our goal, but we must be very careful because it is dangerous, especially if we make the wrong move.

The technique consists of sticking the tip of the knife into the middle of the cork, without going too far through it, as this prevents debris from falling into the liquid. It is best to use a serrated knife, because it guarantees a better grip.

Then it's just a matter of turning it very slowly until the plug starts to move. Once this has happened, you just need to keep pulling it up while making small turns. Let's see that the plug comes out as if it were a screw. It sounds dangerous, it's true, but you just have to be a little careful not to cut yourself, we can put a kitchen towel on the handle of the knife to protect our hands.

Put the cork in instead of taking it out

Without a doubt, of the ways to open a wine without a corkscrew, this is another of the most used. Surely you have done it at some point, it is also a very well-known trick and it is not exactly the simplest, it requires skill and care. It involves pushing the cork in with any tool that does not have sharp edges and is less wide than the stopper. We can use the handle of a small screwdriver, a wrench or any object we can find to apply pressure.

You must be careful not to use too much force and break the bottle, which must be in a vertical position to perform this method. Some wine may come out when you have lowered the cork, but that's okay.

If you don't like the idea of having a cork inside the bottle, then there is a way to get it out after you've pushed it in. Tie a figure 8 knot on a piece of rope and lower it into the neck of the bottle, knotting first. Tilt the bottle to create some leeway on one side, to allow the knotted rope to slide past the cork and underneath.

Lastly, pull your string as tight as you can - the knot will fit against the neck of the bottle at the bottom of the cork and force your cork up and out!

Our toolbox will save us

If we are at home and have a toolbox, everything will become very easy.

You can open a bottle of wine with a screw, a screwdriver, and a hammer. Stick the screw into the cork, then use the screwdriver to screw it in further. Leave about an inch of screw from the cork. Next, take your hammer and using the end (not the head) you can remove the screw and cork from the bottle. (This works best with larger screws with large threads.)

A screw and a pliers

We take the wine bottle and begin to insert the screw into the center of the cork, like when we screw wood until the head of the bolt protrudes a little.

Then we only have to help ourselves with the pliers, as a lever, to pull the cork up, as if it were a normal corkscrew. Here strength is not necessary but morning.

Open a wine with a shoe!

How to open a wine without a corkscrew and we have nothing on hand? If we are on a picnic or a place where we do not have any of the above tools, we only have to use the most basic and essential, our footwear. Although it may seem funny, it is usually an effective method and gets us out of trouble.

How is it done? Well, it only consists of placing the base of the wine bottle inside the shoe, where our heel rests. Then hit the shoe with the container in the indicated position against a vertical wall until the cork protrudes a little and you can remove it with your hands.

With this curious maneuver, the force of the impact received by the shoe will be transmitted to the glass of the bottle, from there it will pass to the wine itself, which will push the small amount of air that always remains between the wine and the cork and, finally, the latter. It will come out little by little with each blow. When the cork sticks out enough, we can pull it with our hands.

If we decide on this method we must be patient and remember that it is better to give many blows with little force than to try to open the bottle with a few very strong blows. This method is especially useful when we find ourselves, for example, in an outdoor field and without any tools at hand, where we can replace the wall with a tree that is sufficiently robust.
The shoe is used to cushion shock and prevent the bottle from breaking. It can also be done with any other object that can protect the base of the container, such as a book or towel for example, however, we tell you that the shoe is more practical.

With a bicycle pump

Do you have a bicycle pump nearby? Well, it is a good tool to use for a unique method of opening a wine.

Put the bicycle tire pump on the cork and make it pump. As you force air into and through the cork, you will create enough pressure to make it fly out of the bottle.

With your car keys

Take your car keys or any other key that is made of metal and with it you can remove the cork from the wine.

The key is inserted into the cork at a 45° angle until most of the key is embedded in the cork. Then, press the key in circles while pulling up; The cork will begin to screw upwards and detach from the neck.

These are just some tricks that can be used to open a bottle of wine when we do not have an opener. There are many others, but before applying them, let's remember to always act safely. In any case, it is better to be safe and make sure you have a good corkscrew on hand.
